After You Submit: What Happens Next in the Chromebook Scheme

After You Submit: What Happens Next in the Chromebook Scheme

You pressed submit, the portal accepted it, and now the screen has gone quiet. For most students, this waiting stretch is the most confusing part of the PM Youth Chromebook Scheme 2026, because nothing seems to happen. Plenty is happening — it is just happening at your board and your school, not on your phone. This guide explains the path your submission travels, how students are picked, and how to look after your side of it. If you have not submitted yet, our homepage record-check overview and the guide to mistakes to avoid before submitting are worth five minutes first.

First: your reference slip is now your most important paper

Your submission ends with a reference slip. That slip is the proof that you submitted, and it carries the reference you will quote if you ever need to ask about your case. Treat it like a result card.

Keep it in at least two places. Save a clear screenshot or photo of it somewhere you will not clear by accident, and keep a printed copy or a second copy with a parent. Students lose phones and clear galleries all the time; the slip is a small thing to protect and a painful thing to lose. If you do lose it, do not panic — your submission still exists — but go to your school office early rather than late if you need help tracing it.

Step one after submission: board verification

Your submission goes back into the system it came from: your education board's records. The board verifies the details behind your application — that the record is genuinely yours, that your school and enrolment details line up, and that the merit position attached to your record is correct.

This is why the details you submitted matter so much. Verification is a matching exercise. A record with the right name, the right date of birth and the right school sails through it. A record with a careless error can stall here, and because there are no edits after submission, a stalled record is hard to rescue. It is also why nobody should ever submit on your behalf with guessed details.

Step two: selection from board data

Students are picked from board data, on merit. There is no separate interview, no extra form after submission, and no queue where early submitters push ahead of later ones. Your standing comes from your board record — your school, your grade, your region's rule, and your performance in it.

Remember how the grade rule works, because it shapes the selection pool around you. In Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, the pool is top Grade 9 students from government and public schools. In Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Islamabad Capital Territory and Gilgit-Baltistan, the pool covers top students from Grade 9 and Grade 10. If you want to re-check how the record stage itself worked, our record check guide lays it out step by step.

Step three: distribution through schools and boards

Selected students receive their Chromebooks through their schools and boards. That is the channel the scheme runs on from start to finish, and it is why your school office stays your first point of contact while you wait. If there is news about your selection or your device, it will travel through your school — not through a random caller, a social media page, or a person asking you to collect from a shop.

When your school calls you in, take your reference slip and your student ID documents with you. Follow whatever identification steps your school asks for, and keep any receipt or acknowledgement they give you with your slip.

What to do while you wait

Waiting well is mostly about not creating new problems. Four habits cover it:

  • Keep your slip safe and findable. Two copies, as above.
  • Stay reachable through your school. If your family changes phone numbers, tell the school office, since school contact is the channel that matters.
  • Ignore fee demands completely. If anyone contacts you asking for money to "release", "confirm" or "deliver" your Chromebook, it is a scam. The scheme is free from the first check to the final handover.
  • Ask the right people. Questions about your own case go to your school and your board. This site can explain the process — our about page is honest about what we can and cannot do — but only your school and board can see your record.

If something seems wrong

If classmates with similar standing hear news and you hear nothing, do not assume the worst on day one. Verification and distribution move through boards and schools in groups, not all at once. Give it reasonable time, then ask your school office politely, with your reference slip in hand. A calm question with your slip gets a real answer; a rumour from a messaging group does not.

And if you discover that a detail in your submission was wrong, go to your school straight away and tell them exactly what is wrong. We cannot promise a fix — the portal allows no changes after submission — but your school and board are the only route that exists, and earlier is always better than later.

The wait feels long because the work is out of your hands now. That is fine. Your job was the careful part: a correct record, clean documents, and a submission you read twice before sending. If you did that part well, the rest of the path — verification, selection, and delivery through your school — can take care of itself.
